Barking with The Beat – Sanford

Meet Sanford! A 2 year old Shepherd/Retriever/Lab mix. Approx. 63 lbs. He’s an old soul in a young dog’s body! If you spend most of your time relaxing on the couch, he would be the perfect companion! He does have bowing in his back legs, so he’d be best in a home with minimal to no stairs. Amanda from 417 Pet Sitting explains more about his condition in the video, as well as below the video. Sanders has a low energy level, so he would be best with older children or an older couple. Would probably do best as an only child, too. Find Sanford at Humane Society of Southwest MO Read full article >>

TK’s Kitty Corner

Welcome to TK’s Kitty Corner where each week we feature a cat (or cats) up for adoption from C.A.R.E.
This week we have Chauncer and Marvin. Both are 4 month old males. Chauncer is Black & White and Marvin is Orange & White. They are both very playful, loving, curious, purr quite a bit, and will do great with other cats, dogs, and kids!
If you are interested in adopting them you can contact C.A.R.E. at 417-875-6565, stop in at 1328 W. Sunshine in Springfield, or visit them online at
You will need to fill out a quick application and pay a $100 adoption fee (this covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, feline leukemia/FIV testing, and anything else needed to get them healthy after rescue.)
Every Friday at C.A.R.E. is “Freeline Friday” where you can adopt a spayed/neutered kitty and they will waive the adoption fee.
C.A.R.E. is a NO-KILL SHELTER!!! Read full article >>

Barking with The Beat – Sophie

Miss Sophie is all puppy and will make a wonderful adult with a little training.  She does well on a leash, and with a harness will do even better.  She is partially potty trained, so transitioning to a forever home shouldn’t be an issue.  She gives kisses and loves to love, you can tell that she is a people pleaser!  She knows basic commands sit, stay, down, and shake.  The ladies at the Humane Society of Southwest MO said she did great with all other dogs when playing outside, but they were uncertain about cats.  I would think that with her high energy that she would probably see cats as toys.  Her general disposition is amazingly gentle and loving once you get her calmed down, so she would do great with kids and/or an active home. – Amanda Brown|417 Pet Sitting Read full article >>

Barking with The Beat – Bruce Wayne

Thanks to 417 Pet Sitting for helping us find Bruce Wayne a new home! Unlike his namesake, our Bruce Wayne is not a billionaire industrialist, though he is a pretty smart boy with great physical strength! Bruce has LOTS of energy, and he doesn’t seem to realize his own strength (so he may do best in a home without small children). He needs some training on proper behavior around humans, and he can be a little picky about his doggie friends, though he has done well with other dogs in his play groups here. Completely unlike the other Bruce, our boy LOVES playing with his stuffed toy, and is not destructive with it at all! The people who brought him to us reported that he is housebroken, though we cannot guarantee that. If you think our Bruce Wayne might be your family’s superhero, come to the Humane Society of Southwest MO to meet him! On Black Friday he’s $55!!! Read full article >>

Barking with The Beat – Holiday Food

At 417 Pet Sitting we are here to care for your pets, but more importantly, we want to provide peace of mind.  With the impending influx of friends, family, and the inevitable dispensary of baked goods, confections, alcohol, and rich foods it is best to be aware of some of the toxins to our furbabies and why.  A lot of times we equate food with love, but it is actually the exact opposite!  Unless your guests are pet owners as well, they might not be aware of the lurking dangers either, so feel free to share with friends and family BEFORE they arrive, or even leave a print out in the kitchen.  Some of the main ones the Poison Center warns of are below.
