SPRINGFIELD, MO — Fassnight Pool will close for emergency repairs on the pool shell Friday, June 14, 6:30 p.m., and will remain closed for several days.

Parks staff discovered Friday afternoon that a portion of the pool shell has come loose in the pool’s shallow end. To repair this, the pool’s shallow end must be drained, then several square feet of the shell will be removed and replaced. Draining begins after close Friday, with repairs beginning over the weekend. The deep end of the pool will not be drained.

Draining, repairing and refilling the pool is expected to take about a week, weather permitting.

Fassnight is normally open Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 1-6:30 p.m. Due to the closure, Grant Beach Pool will be open Sunday, June 16, and Monday, June 17, as well as its normal weekly schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Depending on the timing of repairs, additional pool schedule changes may be announced.

Park Board staff members are working with the City of Springfield’s Environmental Services Department to expedite draining the pool, allowing repairs to begin soon.

“Special thanks to our colleagues at Environmental Services, who are providing equipment that will help us quickly drain the pool, allowing our staff to starting making repairs over the weekend,” said Anne-Mary McGrath, Superintendent of Recreation.

Fassnight is the Park Board’s largest and busiest outdoor pool, as well as the oldest public pool in Springfield, built in 1927.
