Free Fire Escape Ladders from SFD

The Springfield Fire Department is helping families here in the Ozarks stay safe.

If you live here in Springfield on the north side, you could receive a free window escape ladder.

You know those windows that hook on the windowsill and drop down?

The department as part of a FEMA safety grant, the SFD received 50 of these ladders for fire prevention and safety efforts.

They still have about 35 left, first come first served.

They say this time around they’re focusing on the northwest and northeast parts of the city.

To receive one of the ladders, you just set up a time for the fire department to visit your home and together you’ll complete a home escape plan. They’ll also teach you how to use the ladder. So I’d say it’s a win-win for all.

I was just thinking the other day about those little stickers you can put in your kids windows in case there is a fire, that way rescue teams know there are kids in those rooms.

I remember as a kid the house next door to ours caught fire and it really scared me as a kid, gave me frequent nightmares so my parents bought one of those ladders for us kids to feel safer.
