Oldest Living Gorilla, Trudy, Dies at Arkansas Zoo

The Western Lowland gorilla was believed to be the oldest living in captivity.

Zookeepers found 63-year-old Trudy unresponsive when they checked on her.

Trudy was the oldest gorilla according to the records of accredited zoos, but it’s highly unlikely any other zoos, accredited or non-accredited zoos have older gorillas.

Trudy and a male gorilla named Ollie arrived at the Little Rock Zoo on a breeding loan from Buffalo in 1988. They were the first gorillas ever exhibited in the state.

She was also one of the last gorillas captured in the wild as today’s North American gorillas are born in zoos.

RIP Trudy.
