Music notes: Lizzo, Nick Jonas and more

Lizzo is moving on from her Chris Evans crush – and she wants fans to move on, too. On Instagram Friday, she posted a video from her Chicago concert in which she explains to the crowd that she had asked fans to stop bringing photos of the Captain America actor to her shows and instead to bring photos of her real boyfriend, Myke Wright. And lo and behold, there were two fans in the front row who listened to her request and brought giant printouts of Myke’s face.

Have you seen the viral video of TikTok user Gabe Gibbs singing a song called “Joe’s Last Words” from an imaginary Jonas Brothers musical? Well, Nick Jonas did and he even duetted it.

Adam Lambert hosted a panel Thursday night on behalf of his Feel Something Foundation. The “Care/Feel” discussion, held at Hotel Ziggy on the Sunset Strip, was about queer mental health in the music industry.

The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s hit song “Stay” won ASCAP Pop Music Song of the Year at the 40th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards, which recognize the songwriters and publishers of the most performed songs of the past year.

Jim Brown, NFL great and 'Dirty Dozen' actor, dead at 87

Charley Gallay/Getty Images for Disney+

Jim Brown, one of the most famous pro football players to successfully tackle Hollywood, has died, according to an Instagram post from his wife, Monique.

Brown was 87.

"He passed away peacefully at our LA home," she noted, adding, "To the world he was an actor, an activist, and a football star. To our family he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken."

After a successful career as a college athlete who played football, lacrosse and ran track, Brown was drafted for the NFL as a fullback for the Cleveland Browns in 1957. He played for the team until 1965, setting touchdown and rushing records, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.

However, even before he stopped playing, he started acting, making his feature film debut in the 1964 Western Rio Conchos. He soon began amassing dozens of big-screen credits, including 1967's ensemble World War II movie The Dirty Dozen.

Brown appeared in many famous "blaxploitation" action movies in the '70s, including Slaughter and Three The Hard Way, and worked through the '80s with guest roles on TV and in the movies.

He played a flamethrower-wielding pro "Stalker" nicknamed Fireball in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi film The Running Man and played on his past credits in Keenan Ivory Wayans' blaxsploitation spoof I'm Gonna Git You, Sucka, the following year. In his long acting career, Brown also appeared in movies like Tim Burton's Mars Attacks, He Got Game for Spike Lee and in the acclaimed football film Any Given Sunday for Oliver Stone.

The former football great was also active in the Civil Rights Movement, and over the subsequent years launched various organizations to boost Black entrepreneurship and advancement.

Lewis Capaldi talks new album, 'Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent'

Capitol

Lewis Capaldi’s sophomore album, Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent, is out now.

In a new interview with Rebecca Judd for Apple Music 1, the Scottish singer discusses writing the majority of the album — which features the songs “Wish You the Best,” “Pointless” and “Forget Me” — in his parents’ shed during the pandemic in 2020.

“I didn't have any other choice really,” he says. “I lived with my parents at the time, so it was kind of that thing. It wasn't a conscious decision, of course, but it was good. It was nice to be, I guess, comfortable. I think next time, I might go somewhere sunny.”

The album tackles themes of mental health; Lewis says before writing it, he was having panic attacks onstage every day and dealing with the symptoms of Tourette syndrome.

“My mental health issues are a direct symptom, I guess, of my job,” he says. “I've never had them before things took off and went crazy and stuff, so it's interesting to write an album about it when that is the case.”

Now, he’s at the point where he can balance his mental health with his career. It’s a trade-off, he says.

“I'll take a few panic attacks and my Tourettes and stuff for what's happening, but if it gets to the point where things get worse mentally and I stop kind of looking after myself in that regard, I think that would be a point where I'd be like, ‘I'm just not going to do this anymore,’” Lewis says.

Tori Spelling asks for help after sharing family's 'spiral of sickness' due to 'extreme mold'

Actress Tori Spelling is sharing a warning with other parents and asking for help after mold problems caused her family to experience a "spiral of sickness."

Spelling, who shares five children with her husband, Dean McDermott, took to Instagram this week to ask for help finding a "mold lawyer" in California, where the family lives.

"Our troubles are next level with our mold problem and the house that's been slowly killing us for 3 years," Spelling wrote. "My kids are so sick and can't get well and our family needs help."

Earlier this month, Spelling shared photos on Instagram of herself with at least four of her children at an urgent care clinic.

Spelling said in the caption that she was prompted to look for answers after her kids were in what she described as a monthslong "continual spiral of sickness."

"Used to think… well that’s what happens when you have young kids in school. They just continually bring sicknesses home," Spelling wrote. "But, when it gets to the point where they are at home sick more than being in school we had to reassess what was going on."

Spelling wrote that among the symptoms her children have experienced are skin rashes, extreme fatigue, dizziness, fevers and respiratory infections. Her five children range in age from 6 to around 16.

Spelling said a professional mold inspection company found "extreme mold" in the family's home, which she said they had been renting.

"It’s hard to just uproot a huge family especially in midst of all feeling so sick and in bed," she wrote. "But, we now will vacate the home asap."

'John Wick' franchise shoots past a billion bucks

Lionsgate

Yeah, I guess you can say he's in the black.

Keanu Reeves' John Wick movie series, which kicked off in 2014 with a modestly budgeted revenge film about a dude avenging his murdered puppy, has officially become a billion-dollar franchise.

The series' biggest earner, John Wick: Chapter 4, is still hanging tough on the Domestic Top Ten box office charts, and receipts — counting both domestic and overseas — just pushed the franchise over the billion-dollar mark.

To date, the fourth film has made nearly $425,843,000 in theaters worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

While the movie's climax showed Reeves' titular assassin was finally "at peace," the movie's strong box office opening and continued legs have reportedly made Lionsgate reconsider sending Baba Yaga to his grave.

Until then, there's also a spinoff movie called Ballerina, starring Oscar nominee Ana de Armas, due out next summer and a small-screen prequel show, The Continental, debuting on Peacock in September.

New Music Friday: Post Malone, Zara Larssen and more

Post Malone has released a new track called “Mourning,” the latest off his upcoming album, Austin, out July 28. The song takes a sad tone, with Posty singing about trying to forget his problems. “Don’t want to sober up/ The sun is killing my buzz/ That’s why they call it mourning/ Thought I was strong enough/ Threw my bottle at the sky/ Said, ‘God, that’s a warning,'” he sings.

Zara Larssen’s got a new single, “End of Time,” along with a music video that imagines what it would be like to visit your younger self for a day.

Jason Derulo has dropped “When Loves Sucks” featuring Dido. The track interpolates Dido’s 1999 hit “Thank You.” Fun fact: Jason's 2009 debut single, "Whatcha Say," also interpolated a song by a female British singer/songwriter: Imogen Heap's 2005 single "Hide and Seek."

Anne-Marie has teamed up with Shania Twain for the song “Unhealthy,” off the British pop star’s upcoming album of the same name, due out July 28. Anne-Marie slid into Shania’s DMs to get her to appear on the track, and it worked. The two met up in London to record the song in March.

After an 11-year hiatus, Boys Like Girls are back with a new single, “Blood and Sugar,” and a music video. “Thematically the song is fairly simple, an empty calorie relationship that's so delicious you don’t care,” lead singer Martin Johnson says in a statement.

PNAU, known for their megahit "Cold Heart" with Elton John and Dua Lipa, are out with a new collab: "Stars," featuring Bebe Rexha and Ozuna.

Kesha's new album, Gag Order, has arrived, featuring the prereleased tracks “Only Love Can Save Us Now," "Eat the Acid" and "Fine Line."
